No Reading this week
Do:
Watch 2 videocasts on David Maitsel's website.
There's a link to his site at right. Probably wouldn't hurt to watch the "On Strategy: Fat Smoker" videocast again, as well.
Quiz on Financial Ratios on Week Six. Uncle Ken will provide us with an incomplete sheet of ratios, along with a balance sheet and an statement of earnings from which to calculate the missing ratios. Bring a calculator and paper for calculations.
I'll ask my co-worker, Melody Wey, who runs the food blog "Audrey needs more wooden spoons", how to open this blog up for everyone to comment.
Update: Everyone should now be able to comment. Give it a go!

Thanks for the plug Cal and good luck in your blogging endeavors!
While we discussed ratios only very briefly last week, I can see the point of them if you have balance sheets and statements from several years back. Significant changes in spending (or saving) do pop out. The company in the homework assignment - ABC Distribution - looks to have made some significant changes between 2001 and 2002 because the Bad Debt Expense went down along with their Total Operating Expenses, while their Return on Equity went way up.
Those CFA videos that Ken mentioned early on in class look to be Japanese YouKu rip-offs from a company called Allen Resources. This Ratiosone is pretty good.
Did anyone have trouble with the ratio homework? I only ask because Ken had mentioned last class that one of the ratios in the book for "ABC Distribution" was incorrect... did anyone find it?
Thanks again Cal for putting the Blog together for the class! The CFA Ratios Analysis Video link was helpful.
See you all next Tuesday - Enjoy the weekend!
Yes, Marty, I wondered the same thing about the incorrect ratio Ken mentioned - all of my ratios matched what was is the textbook. If someone knows, please share!
Nope, mine matched as well!
By the way, once we get out of financial pain and into the case study work, is anyone else interested in meeting before class on Tuesday nights to discuss the case study homework? Say 6.15?
That would be a great idea Jan.
